The DELC ("Grand View Church") underwent schism in 1894 with the splitting off of a group that formed the Danish Evangelical Lutheran Church in North America (DELCA or DELC-NA) in 1894 which soon after (1896) merged with the Danish Lutheran Church Association (DLCA or "Blair Church") to form the United Danish Evangelical Lutheran Church (UDELC), which dropped "Danish" from its name in 1946 to become the UELC. The UDELC and UELC were known as the "Blair Church" or "United Church." The remainder of the original DELC ("Grand View Church") continued under that name for many years until undergoing its own renaming and mergers.
--Church History
Information about the history of the Lutheran Church in North America including the formation of the various Danish associations and synods and the history of their relationships. Some information about the Danish Lutheran Church (the state church of Denmark) is also included.
The UDELC resulted from the merger in 1896 of the Danish Lutheran Church of North America (aka The North Church) and the Danish Lutheran Church Association (aka the Blair Church). In 1940, the word "Danish" was deleted from the organization's name, but. it otherwise remained the same. It merged with other churches in 1960 to form the American Lutheran Church (ALC) which in 1988 merged with additional churches to become the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA).
