'Men and Women of Nebraska' was published in 1903. A copy is available at the Blair NE Public Library. The first nine scans list the Washington County persons mentioned in it along with the page numbers on which they can be found. The rest of the scans consist of notes made by Einar Vig of the entries in the book.
Presumably these were the typical 'General Store' that provided necessities in the rural communities.
