Einar Vig took this from the 1860 census in which the father was missing. In the 1850 census, the family is found in Green, Jay County, Indiana. The father is Jonathan (44) with Mary L (43), James M (21), Enoch K (18), Mary A (16), Jonathan Jr (14), Harriet (12), Isaac (11), Nancy (9) and Elizabeth (8), Hannah H (3), Lydia A (6) and Eli H (6m). Jonathan was born in Pennsylvania, Mary L in North Carolina. A poorly-sourced tree on Ancestry.com says Jonathan was born in Maine and that Mary L. Mendenhall was his wife. It lists two additional children, Valentine and Esther. they were marrtied on 7 Sept 1826 in Wayne County, Indiana. Jonathan Sr is said to have died on 28 Dec 1859. The head-of-household pattern would have it "Thomas, Mary L", but "Thomas, Jonathan & Mary L" seems more appropriate.
